Animal health study sponsorships are MAF's lifeblood, the fundamental mechanism by which MAF serves its mission to protect, treat, and cure animals.
Individuals, groups, or organizations can sponsor health studies. When you sponsor a study you can follow the success and challenges the scientists are encountering. Plus, receive updates on actual animals being helped.
Step 1 — Select a study
Use our online tool to search our current studies or download a PDF of our 2008-09 Study Sponsorship Opportunities Booklet (this is a large file and may take a couple of minutes to download, dependent upon connection speed).
Review the sponsorship opportunities organized by your favorite animal or animal health interest and select your favorite study. For questions on any study, e-mail Dave Riggs or call 800.243.2345; Ext: 425.
Step 2 — Determine your sponsorship level
You can sponsor a study at many giving levels drawn from the bulleted list provided below. Often, groups of individuals or organizations pool together to collect funds for a study.
- With a minimum gift of $3,000 or more, you can co–sponsor one of the studies. Or you may fully sponsor a study at the yearly budget amount. (Average grant is $38,000/yr).
- With a gift of $3,000–5,000, you can fully sponsor a Veterinary Student Scholar. These grants provide veterinary students with the opportunity to become involved in health research that will enhance the health and well–being of companion animals and wildlife. Co–sponsorships are not available for VSS projects.
- With a gift of up to $50,000, you can sponsor a Fellowship Training Grant, and get personal satisfaction that you are launching a promising scientist's career – thereby ensuring advances in animal health and welfare for years to come. If you find you can commit to sponsoring both years of these two–year grants (up to $100,000), naming opportunities are available to you if you wish.
- With a gift of $50,000, you can sponsor a First Award Grant, which provides funding for an investigator's first project as the lead scientist on a companion animal or wildlife study. This can be exactly the break a young researcher needs to launch their career in animal health. If you find you can commit to sponsoring both years of the two–year grant ($100,000), naming opportunities are available to you if you wish.
